Oh so true…

“Clearly, there is no longer such a thing as a safe electronic archive, whatever computing’s snake-oil salesmen claim. No organisation can treat digitised communication as confidential. An electronic secret is a contradiction in terms.”

It’s stopped snowing…

At 6:19 Mickey actually acts and the camera shots are well done. A real film that I remember for the first time I saw realistic snow in a cartoon.

At 7:40, it stopped snowing.

Daring Fireball on AirPlay…

“So my best guess is that Apple really wanted to ship iOS 4.2 in November — especially for the sake of the iPad — and some features didn’t make the cut. Widespread AirPlay video support, I suspect is one of those things — and that we’ll see a lot more places where AirPlay works for video in future iOS updates.”

Daring Fireball: Video Support for AirPlay Is Limited in iOS 4.2

So this maybe true, programmers often run out of time but I think that this is missing the elephant in the room.

I love AirTunes (the old name for AirPlay) and have used it for years. I’ve two AirPort Expresses at home and they’re in use almost every day. However…

I’ve stopped recommending it to friends because it’s so flaky. Too often I’ve sold it on a friend for it to not work. And this is just music, not video.

My guess is that they assumed that they could build on the existing stack of software and have found that it’s not up to the job. I’m expecting that 4.3 will come with a new version of iTunes, new Express fireware, new router firmware etc. This probably won’t work properly till well into next year.

iPhone SIM card plan thwarted…

This looks like classic Apple…

“A senior source at a mobile operator said: “Apple has long been trying to build closer and closer relationships and cut out the operators. But this time they have been sent back to the drawing board with their tails between their legs.”

Apple’s iPhone SIM card plan thwarted – Telegraph

I’ll translate it for you.

– A senior source with a large ego has bragged to a journalist friend that he got one over Apple.

– Apple had a meeting with a senior executive at a mobile operator where the executive pounded his fist on the table and said “I’ll never accept that on my network”.

– Apple left the room without comment and struck the mobile operator from their plans and carried on regardless.

What’s in this for you?

Executive probably works at Vodafone or O2. Sell your shares!

Apple’s not playing the same game as the others and the operators haven’t understood that yet.
