Season 1 was something special. Season 2 is exceptional…

In June 2023 I woke up on a Saturday morning to over a thousand new emails and was receiving new emails every few seconds.

Step 1 – Change passwords. Thank god for 1Password.

Step 2 – Work out how I’d been hacked. The emails were a clue. I’d been hacked via a WordPress plugin. Once in they’d managed to read my emails. However, I still had access to the console of the hosting company.

Step 3 – Sort out the emails. I’d been subscribed to hundreds of newsletters to camouflage the other stuff they were doing. Email by email, I pieced it all back together.

Step 4 – Recover the stuff that was stolen. Mainly air miles. That took three weeks.

Step 5 – Recover the hacked WordPress site. That took two years. Mainly because I didn’t have the time what with life and stuff. Today it’s back (I hope for good).
