Paying for The Times Online…

This I’d not foreseen…

“Why would I get any of my clients to talk to the Times or the Sunday Times if they are behind a paywall? Who can see it? I can’t even share a link and they aren’t on search. It’s as though their writers don’t exist anymore..”

Winds howl over the deserted moonscape behind Rupert Murdoch’s UK newspaper paywalls – Boing Boing.

Does this mean that the writers need to be paid more to write for a non-public site. It probably does, but I’m not sure that the writers at The Times would understand the economics of it!!!

Conway’s Game of Life in HTML 5

As a Computer Science student I spent many an hour playing with the game of life.

However, the one thing that I wanted to do was change the rules so that there were less stable states (ie – there would be more movement) and yet this games would last a long time. Never did find the right solution to that one.

If…

As child in the UK this was drummed into me at school before I reached the age of 12…

“If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;”

Rudyard Kipling

Fabrice Grinda: Musings of an Entrepreneur » If

I hated it then and it’s not improved with age.

Interesting to see someone taking it seriously. Madness.

Architecture’s Modern Marvels…

Vanity Fair asks an interesting question. And then lists the top 22 buildings since 1980.

Architecture’s Modern Marvels | Culture | Vanity Fair

The list looks good to me but there are no houses!!! Seriously, not one?

Interestingly after spending trillions and going through the largest construction boom of modern times. London has just the Lloyds building, which to me is a copy of the Centre Pompidou which couldn’t make the list because it is pre-1980.

Finally, Dubai must also be upset!

Apple’s ‘Letter From Apple Regarding iPhone 4’

This is quite funny…

Daring Fireball: Translation From Apple’s Unique Dialect of PR-Speak to English of the ‘Letter From Apple Regarding iPhone 4’.

However, one stupid question  from a simple user…

Does this impact the iPad?

iPad Apps #3 – GoSkyWatch Planetarium

Every now and then technology brings a moment of magic. I remember seeing my first VHS program (James Bond!) and taking 15 mins to work out what was happening. Or the first time I saw GPS in a car. GoSkyWatch is one of those moments.

When I look at the sky at night, I see stars but have no knowledge of what they all are.

Hold your iPad up over the sky and it identifies what you’re seeing. It’s beyond incredible.

iPad Apps #2 – Toodledo

Found this by accident and so far it’s worked for me very well. I actually get stuff done (sort of).

Toodledo iPad

It’s well worth the money and has more options than you’ll ever use.
