Stuck In Customs

Stuck In Customs regularly publishing amazing photos, today is no exception and it has the added bonus of being an image of one of my favorite places.

Why can’t I take photos like this? I have photos of the same sky on the same day and they look nothing like this.

Why France turns a blind eye on race…

Charles Bremner – Times Online – WBLG: Why France turns a blind eye on race

Charles Bremner often writes so well about my home country but every now and then he forgets to explain a key point about why something is the way that it is. Today’s blog entry simply states that France must (not should; but must) measure the ethnic origins of its population.

No where does he explain why they constitutional court made the ruling that it did in 1978.

In 1978 the Second World War was a lot more easily remembered than it is today. During the occupation of France the wonderfully detailed records of the origins of every person in the country were used to devastating effect in the deportations. Luckily France hasn’t forgotten that lesson (or the lesson of Rwanda twenty years later).

Without mentioning this simple fact, the story is distorted and the honorable reasons for the court ruling lost.

Product announcement at LeWeb3?

The next step in the next step (Scripting News)

Now I’m really looking forward to LeWeb3; seems that Mr Winer has something to tell us.

PS – If he can also tell us about how the SlingBox has been setup I’d be more than grateful!

New Terrain Layer in Google Maps; new interface required.

They’ve added an extra layer to Google Maps…

New Terrain Layer in Google Maps

Very nice! However, they need to look at the interface again. By the time you’ve buttons for three views, traffic, navigation etc. the usability starts to suffer.

.co.uk

I’ve always wondered why the British are the last country to drop the .co (their version of the .com) from their internet addresses. Stephen Fry also worries about it.

Stephen Fry » Blog Archive » “Is this the greatest living Englishman?”

I assume that the answer is probably along the lines of “its European rules” or “health and safety make us do it”.

PS  – Why does Stephen Fry write so much better about technology than the professionals?

Two questions…

You have to ask the question; would she have made it today (no!) and how many other people are we turning away who need our help.
