Will interface matter?

Adobe’s Acrobat.com could be an Office killer; Will interface matter? | Between the Lines | ZDNet.com

Yes, of course it matters but…

What amazes me is how good the interfaces looks compared to Office; this is an online app and it looks lovely to my offline application. I’m used to the online applications looking like Google Docs; basic, blue and boring. This is something very different and, in fact, so good that I’m itching to use it but I don’t want to go through the transition process.

Nokia 6086 on Mac / iSync – Fixed…

“Her indoors” bought a Nokia 6086 over the weekend and we made an almost fatale mistake at the shop. We didn’t check for iSync support on the Mac. And guess what, it’s not supported…argh!

However, I found this, crossed my fingers and tried it.

It works perfectly.  Wonderful!

Why have only one…

“If Gates & Co. had ended up snagging Booch, however, I wonder whether Microsoft’s priorities might be considerably different than they are with Ozzie in the CSA role. Might Microsoft be more business-focused than consumer-focused?”

What if Microsoft had picked a different Chief Software Architect? | All about Microsoft | ZDNet.com

What this actually shows is that Microsoft needs more than one Chief Architect; how can one person control everything from the Xbox to Live via the Zune?

Why we carry so much…

I was reading about the joys of finding a socket that fits your plug…

Musing about design and convenience

…when I remembered how stupid we all are. We carry around international plug convertors; why don’t we simply change the sockets. Or even, make the sockets international?

Google recognizes some faces…

Google Maps now recognizes faces and blurs them so that you can’t see them. Fantastic technology but…

…why doesn’t it blur the faces in the adverts in these images? Does the recognition system need a body?

Joho and market bullying…

I’ve given up counting the number of times this has happened to me…

Joho the Blog » Market bullying

Seriously, it’s madness. I once clicked on a link on my Mac to buy office; I only wanted to know how much it would cost. I was whisked away to the Microsoft web site where they tried to install something and then tried to refer me to a partner site. I never did find out the price!

Project Management Lessons…

Large aircraft have to be the most complex things built by man; how difficult? This article in Flight International is a wonderful overview of how things can slowly slip out of control…

One year on: the story of the 787

Is it coincidence that the 787 is being build in the same city as Vista? Both projects tried to be radically different and in both cases, the companies learnt a lot of lessons.

Chilien Computers…

I remember reading about this at University and being blown away by the idea. It lead to me reading one of the most boring books I’ve ever read; the history of Chile isn’t a riveting read.

“When military forces loyal to Gen. Augusto Pinochet staged a coup [in Santiago, Chile] in September 1973, they made a surprising discovery. Salvador Allende’s Socialist government had quietly embarked on a novel experiment to manage Chile’s economy using a clunky mainframe computer and a network of telex machines.”
